Harding Academy at Newport
« on: January 07, 2020, 01:11:34 pm »
Tonight Harding Academy visits Newport in an important early-season 2-3A clash. HA is 4-2 with the losses coming to highly regarded Greene County Tech (5A) and Cabot (6A). Newport is 9-3 with losses to Bald Knob, Tuckerman and Marked Tree. The Hounds will, no doubt, be tough to beat on their home floor, where they remain undefeated.

Who wins?

Wow! the HA must really be gelling as a team. Or else Newport must not be as good as I thought they'd be. Wildcats mauled the Hounds 74-46. At Newport. Coming up for the 'Cats: They host three teams with losing records over the next ten days or so (Cedar Ridge, Riverview, and Palestine-Wheatley) before they invade Tuckerman on 1/16.

Newport hasn’t won much in basketball, period.  HA is 1-1 all time vs Newport in football.

A little early to call them “big brother”.

I just like poking the sleeping bear. Newport has studs running around everywhere

Even if the statement about Newport basketball is true, and I don't know one way or the other, that's likely to change soon. they had an incredible junior high team last year.
