Don't get the JC folks talking about "The Night the Lights Went Out in Junction" quarter-final game in '99.

Hughes played lonoke? dang.  i thought when hughes was still playing football, the f.f. team page had them listed as having a title.

I watched that game on YouTube not to long ago!

Game was delayed due to a power outage resulting from a car hitting the guy wires supporting a power pole and some wires coming off the pole.  They got the got the lights back on, but the score board was fried.  There are those among the Dragons who take the position the U$C score to take the lead occurred after the game should have been over and JC should have gone to its first WMS game in '99.

Hooties has JC by 6

"GAME OF THE WEEK
No. 3 Gurdon at No. 1 Junction City
Top-ranked Junction City owns a 13-7 advantage in this series, per JC historian Wayne Pumphrey. JC reaches the state semifinals for the 15th time in the past 19 years, winning its last eight semifinal appearances. Gurdon reaches the state semifinals for the first time since 1988, having lost to eventual state runner-up Carlisle in 2011, state runner-up Bearden in 2012, state champion Junction City in 2013, state runner-up Rison in 2015 and state runner-up Hazen in 2018. A pair of rugged defenses battle Friday night at Junction City. Anchored by tackle Kyle Kidwell, linebackers Tanner Barnette and Chase Fennell and safety Jakiron Cook, JC has allowed 8.4 ppg since its opening 30-26 loss to Class 3A semifinalist Camden Harmony Grove. Cook has rushed for 1,382 yards (9.2 yards per carry) and 23 touchdowns. Gurdon averages 31 points per game with junior RB Jameson Threadgill (1,629 yards, 21 TDs, 4.5 speed) rushing for 136 yards per game. Junior QB D.J. Anna topped 1,000 passing yards for the season last week by completing five of seven attempts for 111 yards and two TDs in a 34-17 win over Magnet Cove."

Donít get me wrong. Iím not hatin that you pick JC to win so big. Judging by your last weekís stupid 2A predictions (only 1 out of 4 correct). You picking against us, Iíd say the odds are in our favor. You should prolly leave the predictions to the pros... or at least someone who knows what they are talking about?!

Only way Gurdon can stay in the game is to limit the big plays of JC. They will have to stop the long runs and the long passes, that DA was not able to in the second half last week. MC had success running the ball, and JC has a much larger line than we have and more athletic.

#3 for Gurdon had 31 carries last week, so JC needs to focus on him

I expect Gurdon's game plan to have minimum of 20 passes on 1st and 2nd down. QB has a good arm and is pretty accurate. Then mix the run game in and the O should be able to consistently move the ball.
If Gurdon runs on 1st and 2nd and throws on 3rd then it will be a long night!

I'll root for the Go-Devils as they represent the 7, but I don't know if they have the horsepower to pull it off. I'm sure it has already been stated in this thread, but Gurdon does have an advantage that most 2A's don't by having enough players to switch out offensive and defensive lines. That may play a factor in having the stamina to withstand four full quarters, if needed. Des Arc did well against JC until Halftime and it was almost the same story with Gurdon and Magnet. JC is known for their big play, but Gurdon posted some pretty big scores during the regular season as well.

I think the end score will be within a couple of touchdowns, but this is the playoffs and predictions usually go astray this time of year.

I sure hope you intended this whole comment to be funny bc it is. If Gurdon wins, it wonít be at all close to 20 points. And thereís no way Dierks wouldíve beaten Gurdon. Played them two times this year with a combined score of 74-22. Your star left guard didnít make a different bc yíall run to the right and your defensive end wouldnít help the 200+ yards Gurdon ran up the middle. Dierks thinks they did something by beating Hackett whom was short their QB...

Talent level goes to JC. Coaching level goes to Gurdon...

JC wins in spite.

Brad is a first year head coach, but he does have more state championship rings than he can wear on one hand. Just sayin'.

Plus Carpenter is the AD and Lowe is the Superintendent.  That's some pretty good reference sources there.  Just sayin' some mo'.

Both teams have numbers and a lot of strengths. But they also both have a cpl of weaknesses. Seems where one is strong the other is weak. The numbers will definitely help both teams. Should actually be a good game regardless of what the majority of people predict.

FF tends to fry JC for its roster size and football participation percentage, but Gurdon's roster is almost the same size and its participation percentage is as high or higher and they get a pass.    ???

Kind of feels like one of those Trump-Obama deals.  ;D

Three of the four teams left were recently 3-A.

One of those three was there because of an AAA error, but your point of those three being the larger 2A schools is well taken.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad Gurdon demonstrates it's possible for a 2A school, no where near the border (and I don't think that participates in school choice), to field a 40-player playoff roster.

It doesnít matter what the AAA does someone always feels like their being shafted. If yíall were still in 3-a then yíall would be at the bottom numbers wise. Which is where we have always been even in 2-a. In three classes we have just over 40 boys total. But we usually find a way to compete ( obviously not this year.). Nor have we ever shied away from an opponent. (Which two schools did to our Jr high team this year.). I wasnít trying to make a point. Just stating the obvious after the numbers game was mentioned. Chances are Ida and junction may hook up in the next few years. I donít care how many kids you have on the sidelines. Not one bit. We will match our 11 against your 11 and see who wins.  That is how football is played. All these other numbers and stuff donít matter. When you have an opponent, prepare your kids for them. Then go play them. And Iím not defending anyone or taking one side over the other. Itís just reality. I get tired of the whining. If itís not junction and gurdon. Then itís fordyce Danville or CHG. We have had to play everyone of them except fordyce. Won most all of them. So if it really is a numbers game, why did Mt. Ida, at the very bottom of 2-a compete against all of these schools? i Know this a bit of a rambling and I hope pick is ok with it and donít report me to moderator again.

If you think I reported you or anyone on ANY post, you REALLY are as dumb as some of your post. Would not bother me if that was not even an option.

He did a little in the game, had 13 tackles...

Calm down Swat team 6 I can see pick being reported not reporting. Don't get caught up in the numbers game. There are good teams in 2 A that have to play 7-9 both ways. My favorite players are the ones that go both way and play all the special teams. Iron Man Football

Lol. Iím calm. And Iím right there with ya cause thatís how we have to play. I wasnít even the least bit upset when I posted that. I keep reading how numbers are an unfair advantage. We have always had to deal with that. Donít use it as a crutch or excuse. We go play.

You may have been calm, but the ignorance was dripping when you accused me of reporting some post you made.
