How many schools have it? How long have they had it?

Iím going to say 8 or 9 years in the Jonesboro/NEA area. I think there were 9 teams in the 8th grade level, and 6 in the 7th grade.

The only baseball worth playing for competition is Varsity.  And often that is just not very competitive.  The best competition comes from travel ball in all ages if you are able to travel to good places with good competition.  Not over play but play good competition.

Any baseball you play is worth it, as youíll probably experience next year.

You forget a lot of kids simply canít afford to play travel ball. A junior high team is a way to blend those kids who play travel ball and those who play league. At our school we have several kids who are 7th-8tj graders who havenít played in 2-3 years because their friends left to play travel ball so they quit. Now they can play together for their school. I like the idea, no instead of having 9th graders who havenít played in 4-5 years coming out, you can get them in your system early. This will get them ready sooner and hopefully not as many fall through the cracks. Plus right now not much high level tournament ball has started. Memorial Day usually is when the BIG ones kick off, and as long as the school ball is during school it doesnít conflict, and serves as almost a warm up.

I think the new/Jonesboro area teams quit playing in late April which still leaves plenty of time for travel ball.

Post season tournament is still going on.

Jonesboro has a good 8th grade league with Jonesboro and surrounding schools...we played in it a couple of years ago and there's some stiff competition...Gosnell, Valley View, Green County Tech, Westside, Batesville, Nettelton, Paragould, Brookland, and a couple more...you'll get all you want for sure competition wise.

If you play down then you will not often get enough to get better.  Always play the best you can play even if it means losses.

I understand many kids can not play travel ball.  I am just making a point that travel ball against good teams is where kids find out how good they really are or how much they want to play.  If you do not play the best you will not get better most likely.  You will be average.  High school ball is near a joke with so much political issues with many teams.   Yes there are good coaches.  Yes there are some great teams.  But on average many teams only have a few good players.  I want all kids to play that want to play.  But travel ball is where they get the best competition most of the time and the best competition helps players get better.
