Sure seems like they can't get their stuff together over there.    Whoever gets that job will have their hands full for sure.

Dover is a nice town the right person could turn things around I think.  They always seem to have good size.

Well they have lost half their high school staff this offseason, including the head coach.

I guess it would have a little more intelligent to ask:  "Is the ship sinking in Pirate land"?

In fairness, if a train loses a couple of road wheels then chances are it's going "off the rails".

Their stadium has a good atmosphere and so much potential but barely has had more than a coat of paint and a fancy scoreboard added in more than 40 years. Thatís where I would start.

That money needs to go to the recruiting budget. Get some kids that are too small to play for Russelville.

Didn't they have several consecutive seasons that ended just a couple of years ago where they won 7 or 8 games a year?  That would seem to be pretty good overall.

They have some pretty good looking uniforms.  The right coach could make hay there a lot of big mountain boys.

Of course they could.   Turning over round hay bales is great exercise and remarkably on point when it comes to player workouts.

Confirmed it is Reed Mendoza former OC for Lincoln Wolves. Reed is a close friend of mine I have known since we were teenagers. The pirates are not only getting a great coach but godly man as well. He will build a solid foundation and not take any shortcuts. Good luck to Coach Mendoza and the pirates

I think this was a very solid hire for Dover. In fact, I'll go ahead and say it, Dover may be in better shape now. Nothing against Smith, but these younger coaches are hungry and want to prove themselves. Mendoza is a high energy type coach that brings a lot of enthusiasm to a program. His time at Dardanelle definitely gave him experience in developing highly conditioned players, one of the areas Dover previously seemed weakest in. I was impressed with what little I was able to see from him and am anxious to see how the Pirates respond to the new leader.

Glad to see Dover fill spot with a young coach.  If a young coach can relate, get the boys to commit, and stay with the program they will have success.
A lot of teams have a large drop off of players between 9th and 10th grade.  These are the role players and depth the teams need to compete.

Dover got a winner for sure. That guy is full of love, spirit and energy. He knows what it takes to win and he cares enough to get it done, and done the right way.

He will get it done the right way is the truth.
Then to gray lizard, I believe he will stay there a while. His wife will be having a baby soon and I dont fore see him asking her to make another move like this for awhile. I won't put a time table on that but it would have to be the perfect job to pry him from Dover imo. He and I talked quite a bit one day about this job. We both saw no reason this place couldnt be a consistent playoff team. Yes you will have a tough year 1 period. You also gotta have some talent and luck. But that doesnt mean he wont expect them not to fight and compete.

WS
The stay with the program was more directed to keeping kids in the program than to the coach.  Sorry that was not more clear in my post. To keep kids in a program they need a reward.  You have to first get them to think they can win. Then you have to win.  Success on the field builds hope and desire for kids to stick out the tough time till they get their chance to play. This seems to be the biggest problem in schools that don't win.  To many players that could contribute their junior and senior years are no longer on the team.

A quick glance at Dover's records through the years reveals a very strong biorhythm prevalent over the decades, even as coaches who have been successful elsewhere (Smith, Tucker, Gilleran) have taken their turns running the program.

It's going to take a special one to stabilize it.

I look forward to what Mendoza could bring to the table.
