How long does it take to interview 4 people and make that decision?  Especially if the front runner is on staff?

Good question, but they aren't the only school taking there time either.  Other jobs are open still, may have something to do with it?  Maybe not?

That's funny. lol.  Just reading the rest of the thread over, any idea how that would affect Morphis's status since he is "already on staff" as someone else put it?  What was his role coming in and does that change?  Would a new head coach be able to not bring him in?

Probably a position coach if it doesn't work out for him.

I wouldn't think anyone would go for that.  He was a head coach who was leaving a head coaching job to work for their previous coach.  Makes it hard to think a lesser role than he originally had would make him still come to that.  All speculation until they hire someone though.  Never know.  Some people just like a place, some coaches move for money, some move for connections, coaches are a different breed.

Is Morphis at Hampton now, or just been hired to be there next year?

Was hired to be there next year was my understanding.  I think he is still teaching/coaching spring sport at his current school.

I felt so as well.  We will see who they hire, but I would believe they discussed that possibility when he applied surely.  So they must have been willing to lose him if he doesn't get it.  The school has to do whats best for them though, always the case in those things.  He may wind up the guy there and it doesn't matter.  Until someone names names, we won't know who has it and who doesn't.

By all accounts, he worked there once, from what I've gathered.  I think he was there with Wes Ables before.  He was going there to work with him again is what I understand to be a fact.  Now I'm not sure if there is another connection or not.  He's from south arkansas though I believe.  I've met him some, from him coaching a relative, but may be fuzzy on the details.

Correct.  Will be approved at board meeting on Monday.

Coach Means has been DC at Hope for past several years, was HC at Norphlet prior to that - did a very good job in a tough situation there.  Has coached in the area, has ties to Hamptonís principal - a former coach himself, and probably 20+ years experience.

Interviewed four, I believe.  Means, a current 3A HC, current 4A assistant and Morphis.  All could/would have done well, IMO.  Conference there has faded at bottom.  Strong about done, PC going to be bad, Bearden a mess, etc.

Means a solid choice and will represent Hampton well.

Iíve been told they decided on their guy but itís not the one i wanted so i guess we shall see Iíll post a name when i know for sure

Out of curiosity, dawgpound, who would you have preferred to see get the nod?

I don't know that his name was out there until the hire was made or was anticipated.  Many people, myself included, had not heard of him.  It surprised a lot of people, including some who had applied/interviewed to the best of my limited knowledge on the situation.

Was DC at Hope when they went to semi finals a couple years ago, also led Norphlet to 3 straight playoff seasons before they merged with Smackover. Did a great job with low numbers there and beat Hampton all 3 seasons while HC. He will do good

I heard that way over here at the Grove..........and it wasn't at the Bulldog, it was from a Bulldog.  Looking like Bearden & Hampton are gonna make things easy on Junction City next year by fighting amongst themselves.  Fordyce will have to be the team to try to take first place from them.  The Bugs will be good.......they should have beat us last year, if not for a mad comeback and a little luck by the Hornets.

The Hornets open up hosting the Dragons this year.  I hope we can give them a good game like we did last year........50-52 loss in OT showed very early that we were gonna be very competitive last year, which we were.  I believe this year's Hornets will be very talented.

There seems to be a lot of rumor out of there right now.  I'm sure the coaches that are assistants are making decisions on whats best for them.  Their are lots of times when head coaching changes happen that assistants leave for a better situation.  Is all they are losing is the one coach?

Didn't start until Ables left. My spidey senses are telling me that they were probably an applicant for the job or at least showed some interest in the position!!!
